Removing exhaust manifold heat shield = problems ?

I've seen several pics where the exhaust manifold heat shield has been removed. Does this lead to problems such as discoloration of hood paint, or heat damange to A/C lines, etc ? Thx.

You should be fine. I don't know of anyone here that uses a heat shield unless they still have the stock header.

The only reason you would remove it in the first place is to switch to a header. In this case you can't reuse it because it won't fit. As far as extra heat goes, I never had a problem. It should be fine.

Thanks for comments. I have stock header. The reason I removed the heat shield is that I'm searching for an exhaust leak. I'm hearing a Phsssssssst sound at about 6K RPM and it isn't from a turbo. My setup is a '98 ITR with JRSC. Yup, that stock exhaust manifold is nothing to be showing off.

The heat shield is installed by Honda to protect the fan shrouds, fan motors and A/C lines. Romoving the heat shield will in fact hasten the decay of these items due to excessive exposure to heat, however, real damage will take a long time.
